The New Face of
DOWNS
When you hear the words "Down syndrome," what
pops into your mind? Most of us who haven't been
around many people with Down syndrome think of
the usual stereotypes: the obvious physical
characteristics, speech impediments, and mental
retardation.

But there's a whole other side to Down syndrome
that most people aren't aware of. These
individuals are endearing, engaging, gregarious,
kind, insightful, funny, happy, productive
members of their families and communities.

The truth is, for all the obvious differences,
people with Down syndrome are more like the rest
of us than you can imagine. Although it's true that
Down syndrome is virtually always associated with
some degree of cognitive disability, there is also a
great deal of cognitive ability (think of it as the
glass being half full--they do!), especially when it
comes to social interaction. And more and more,
people with Down syndrome are proving that they
can dream big and accomplish great things!
85% of all parents who learn that their unborn
baby has Down syndrome will choose abortion.
Society portrays individuals with Down
syndrome as vacant, "stupid," and incapable of
living any sort of meaningful life. Take a few
minutes to meet some amazing people, and see
if they don't turn the way you look at Down
Syndrome UPSIDE-DOWN!
