The New Face of

Half-a-century ago, individuals with Down Syndrome were
rarely seen outside of institutions. Sadly, even in modern
times when society claims to embrace people with
differences, parents facing the prospect of having a baby with
Downs are usually counselled to abort. In fact, 85% of babies
diagnosed prenatally with Down Syndrome will be aborted!
With earlier testing on the horizon, these figures are expected
to climb even higher in the near future.
This alarming and outdated attitude toward Down Syndrome
sends the message that these individuals have no hope of
living a meaningful life, and are of no value to society. But ask
any parent who has been blessed by the addition of one of
these engaging little ones to their family, and you'll likely hear
story after story of the unexpected joy they have brought to
the lives of everyone around them.
DOWNS
Our vision
It is our goal to educate parents about DS, so that no parent
ever feels the desperation and sadness that leads them to see
abortion as the "best choice." We also aim to make society
truly live up to its claims of accepting and celebrating
differences by challenging this dangerous misinformation.
Only by changing the way the world sees Down Syndrome will
we save this endangered species!
ENDANGERED
SPECIES!
ENDANGERED
SPECIES!
ENDANGERED
SPECIES!
In a world consumed with perfection,
society has decided that there is no
room for "different." If this attitude
remains unchecked, we run the very
real risk of eradicating that which
makes us individuals, of
breeding-out anything unique,
anything special. In short, we will
become that homogeneous
population which we claim to
disdain.
